Daniel Vélez ARCHITECT
I am an architect. My approach regarding Team Management and Project Management has a technical background since I’ve been working for several years within an engineering group. I have been involved in national and international projects developments, helding positions as Author-Working Team member, Discipline Leader, Project Engineer and Project Manager.
Experience summary
I have worked during 14 years within CS&A department of JACOBS, delivering a wide variety projects and carrying out consultancy and project services.
My profesional experience encompasses retail, leisure, educational, institutional and cultural, industrial, laboratories and dwellings building projects develpment and consultancy services. More recently I have assumed responsibilities as Project Manager and Team Manager.
JACOBS has provided me with valuable working system and engineering approach. I had the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary and multinational teams on project developments, using state of the art on management and production IT tools (BIM technology among them).
As BIM expertise (Building Information Modeling) I was involved on the technology implementation within Madrid office.
Project management
In my view, before acting as project manager, it is substantially important gathering enough experience as technician. Furthermore, technicians whose aspire becoming project managers, must diversify their activities throughout production, project services and construction activities. The experience gained will become in the basis of any decision taken on future.
In my case, before assuming duties as project manager I was immersed within production, consultancy and construction tasks. These activities have provided me with essential skills in order to have a suitable vision about project processes. Some examples are, tasks schedule and programming on projects (by means of MSProject), interactive planning sessions (IAP), project control, document control, cost estimation, QA/QC, among others.
Within consulting area, I have participated delivering PCA (Property Conditions Assessment) and Due Diligence reports, which use to include a variety of documents and studies, such as risk analysis, regulations analysis, permitting, economic analysis and CAPEX, and so.
As Project Manager I have recently carried out the demolition of a 70.000 m3 warehouse in the Unilever plant in Aranjuez, Madrid.
The location of the warehouse sharing a production area, and the presence of hazardous materials like asbestos, were risk issues to deal with during project works. Project was accomplished on time and without incident.
Working teams management
One of the most significant recent experiences was the development of Detail Design for the GSK Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine facility at Wavre, Belgium.
The project has resulted one of the gretest works oh my whole career, fully BIM (Building Information Modeling) developed.
The use of integral 3D modeling reduced at the minimum the design interferences among installations, structure and architecture. Definitely a hit in respect of project goals achievieng.
As Architecture Discipline leader I had the opportunity of working with a well trained international team with specialists from France, Italy, Belgium, Holland and India.
